Prenatal Diagnosis of HPE

Dear parents,

We at Families for HoPE, Inc. want you to know that you are not alone in the depth of emotions you must be feeling upon receiving the news of your unborn child’s diagnosis of holoprosencephaly. We are so sorry that you are faced with this heartbreaking reality.

This news may feel overwhelming and surreal, and you may be struggling to come to terms with what it means for you, your family, and your unborn child. It is completely natural to feel a range of emotions, including grief, anger, confusion, and despair.

Please know that you are not alone. There are many resources available to support you during this difficult time, including medical professionals, counselors and our online support group of HPE parents. These individuals can help guide you through the decision-making process and provide emotional support as you navigate this difficult journey.

As you move forward, we encourage you to take things one day at a time and to prioritize self-care and self-compassion. Allow yourself to feel all of the emotions that come up, and don’t be afraid to reach out for help when you need it.

Finally, please know that you and your unborn child are loved, and that your child’s life has value and meaning, regardless of their diagnosis. While the road ahead may be challenging, Families for HoPE and its network of families who have traversed this same journey are here to offer love, compassion, and support in helping you find a way to navigate this difficult journey together.
